Itinerary:
Your guide will meet you at the lobby of the Luoyang Hotel or at the exit of the arrival Luoyang Railway Station with a welcome sign for a day of exploration in Luoyang. Longmen Grottoes, eight miles (13 kilometers) west of Luoyang, is one of the four largest grottoes clusters in China. These works are entirely devoted to Buddhism and represent the pinnacle of Chinese stone carving. There are nearly 110,000 Buddha statues, more than 60 Buddhist pagodas and more than 2,800 inscriptions. The grottoes were formed in a 1km stretch of the Yi River and carved into limestone formations on both sides, forming the Longmen Grottoes.
Peony cultivation in Luoyang now has its own unique charm and cultural brand. After 1500 years of cultivation, Luoyang peony is as eclectic as ever. As the largest peony garden in China, Luoyang National Peony Garden stands out among many gardens for its wide variety, long flowering period and gorgeous colors. About 500,000 peonies of nine colors and another 2 million of 1,000 different varieties are planted in the National Garden of China. One of them, a giant peony called “Flower Goddess,” is 100 years old and 2 meters (7 feet) tall, drawing public attention.
