Overview:

This 10 day trip Make you marvel at the desert scenery of northwest China.The most recommended itinerary is: Shanghai – Xi’an – Zhangye – Jiayuguan – Dunhuang in which you can explore the history, culture and food of the ancient Silk Road, also marvel at tremendous landscapes of desert, Gobi, rainbow mountain, Yardang landform which you can only see in the wild northwestern China. Day 1Shanghai Arrival

Welcome to Shanghai! After retrieving your luggage.Our guide will wait at the airport, holding a sign with your name on it. After a warm greeting, you will be taken to the hotel we have booked for you, which have prefect infrastructure.The rest of the day is at your disposal, you can take a warm rest or explore this city on your own.

 

Day 2Shanghai

Attractions: Shanghai Museum ,the Bund, Yu Garden, Shanghai World Financial Center ,Nanjing Road

A full day sightseeing begins with the Shanghai Museum, where you will experience the richness of Chinese culture. We will then take a fun walk in the charming Former French Concession. 

The next stop is Yu Garden, a representation of traditional Chinese gardens. Walking through its decorated bridges, you may feel like stepping back in time to 400 years ago. Right next to the garden, you’ll get to the Yuyuan Market, where you can taste local snacks or buy unique souvenirs. Besides, you’ll visit a silk workshop to see how small cocoons are transformed into elegant silk. After that you can have a bird’s view of the city from the 100th floor of Shanghai World Financial Center.

Later, get to Nanjing Road, Shanghai’s earliest commercial street and one of the most popular current landmarks. End with the Bund to take in heritage buildings featuring architectural styles from Neoclassical to Gothic to Baroque. While walking on the streets full of various colonial architecture, the epitome of 19th-century Shanghai will come to your mind vividly.

 

 

 

Day 3Shanghai-Xi'an

Attractions: Jade Buddha Temple, Tianzifang

In the morning, you will visit Jade Buddha Temple, home to the world’s largest emerald Buddha and numerous religious artifacts, ancient statues, and Buddhist scriptures.

Next, you will be transferred to Tianzifang, a typical tourist attraction to appreciate the local Shikumen architectural preservation, and in this place full of strong life, you can stroll leisurely through the clean old alleys.

In the afternoon, your guide will escort you to the airport for a flight to Guilin. The rest of the day is your time for leisure.

Day 4Xi'an

Attractions: Terracotta Warriors, Ancient City Wall, Muslim Quarter, Great Mosque of Xi’an

Drive to discover one of the greatest man-made wonders in the world – the Terracotta Warriors, built by the first emperor of China Qin Shihuang to protect him in his afterlife.The Terracotta Warriors has 3 pits,each pit is very big,you may not have enough time to explore the whole,but we will give you introduction.

Take a wonderful stroll on the Ancient City Wall, the largest and best-preserved ancient city wall in China. This visit is followed by a relaxing wander around bustling and lively Muslim Quarter. Don’t miss the Great Mosque of Xi’an which is a fusion of Chinese culture and Islamic culture, a sacred religious site with huge ancient architectural complex, also a surprisingly quiet land away from the hustiling and bustling Muslim streets.

Day 5Xi'an-Zhangye

Attractions: Da Cien Temple, Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Shaanxi History Museum

A full day sightseeing begins with Da Cien Temple, a famous Buddhist sutra translation site during the Tang Dynasty. Big Wild Goose Pagoda is the most famous building in the temple which was built by the famous Buddhist master Xuanzang. Next is an educational visit to the Shaanxi History Museum where you can ramble in the modern exhibition halls to appreciate historic relics such as porcelains, paintings, and currencies dating from the Zhou to the Tang dynastic periods (1100BC to 907 AD).

Day 6Zhangye

Attractions: Binggou Danxia Landform, Zhangye Danxia Landform Geographical Park

You will go to visit Binggou Danxia Landform first. This is a miracle of nature, only belongs to the northwest unique landscape. You will hike leisurely about 2 hours to look the spectacular landform closely. In the afternoon, drive to visit the Zhangye Danxia Landform Geographical Park which was formed in the pre-Jurassic Age. The climate in the northwest is drier and UV rays are stronger. For the health of your skin, don’t forget to sunscreen and moisturize.

 

Day 7Zhangye - Jiayuguan

Attractions: Giant Buddha Temple, Jiayuguan Pass, Great Wall Museum, Jiayuguan Fort

Hotel: Overnight in Jiayuguan

You will go to visit the Giant Buddha Temple which is famous for having the largest indoor sleeping Buddha in Asia. This temple is a large complex with regal arrangements built in Xixia Dynasty(1098), and keeps many precious Buddhist scriptures and wall paintings.

Then you will go to visit “the First and Greatest Pass under Heaven”, also the westernmost starting point of Great Wall of Ming Dynasty – Jiayuguan Pass.

A visit to Great Wall Museum with education will let you learn some interesting facts. Then enter the gate to explore the grandiose Jiayuguan Fort.

Day 8Jiayuguan - Dunhuang

Attractions: Yulin Grottoes, Shazhou Night Market

After your breakfast, our guide will take you to the Yulin Grottoes for sightseeing. The forty-two caves house some 250 polychrome statues and 4,200 square meters of wall paintings, dating from the Tang Dynasty to the Yuan Dynasty (seventh to fourteenth centuries). In the evening, you can go out to go for a walk in the Shazhou Night Market.

Day 9Dunhuang

Attractions: Yumen Pass, Ruin of Great Wall of Han Dynasty, Yadan National Geologic Park, Echoing Sand Mountains, Crescent Lake

You will firstly arrive at Yumen Pass (Jade Gate Pass) which used to be a military defensive pass as well as an important border for international trading along the ancient Silk Road.In ancient China, there is a poem that says “the spring breeze does not warm Yumenguan”, which describes the harsh natural environment of Yumenguan, but also because of this, gives Yumenguan a unique natural scene.

About 5 km from Yumen Pass is the Ruin of Great Wall of Han Dynasty which was built to fight against Xiongnu in the ancient time. Keep driving, you will get to Yadan National Geologic Park. It is also called Devil City in that you will hear the sound just like the devil screaming when the strong wind goes through the desert.

The following attraction is the Echoing Sand Mountains (Mingshashan). It is said, in the sunny days, the sand mountains echo like Orchestra music even if there is no wind. Your last destination is the Crescent Lake. Surrounded by the Echoing Sand Mountains, Crescent Lake is a beautiful oasis with a lake that has never dried up and shapes like a crescent moon.

Day 10Dunhuang Departure

Attractions: Mogao Grottoes

You will visit Mogao Grottoes. Mogao Grottoes is famed as the “Louvre of the East”, which is outstanding for its exquisite mural paintings and statues. The rest of today is free for you to catch your flight or train to the next destination. Your Dunhuang Silk Road tour ends!We will escort you to the airport and you can take your flight back home for a rest.
