Unlock the secrets of the legendary Hexi Corridor with this 5-day itinerary. Hexi Corridor is an important channel to the Western Regions, the ancient Silk Road passes through here. Along the corridor, You will be immersed in the colorful world of Danxia landform, exploring the Buddhist treasures preserved in Mogao Grottoes.

Day 1Zhangye Arrival

Attractions: Giant Buddha Temple

Hotel: Overnight in Zhangye

Flight to Zhangye. Arrival and transfer to hotel. Visit of Giant Buddha Temple. Also being called Dafo Temple, the Giant Buddha Temple, located in the southwest corner of Zhangye of Gansu Province, is the largest architectural relic in Gansu Province of the Western Xia (1038-1227) period. China’s largest reclining Buddha is well preserved in this temple.

Day 2Zhangye - Jiayuguan

Attractions: Danxia landscape, Jiayuguan Pass, Xuanbi Great Wall

Morning we will pay a Visit to Danxia landscape. Zhangye’s Danxia landscape has lots of precipitous red cliffs, most of which are several hundred meters high, and multicolored ridges of weathered strata, sometimes stretching to the horizon. These formations, sometimes smooth sometimes sharp, stand out against the greens or grays of the plains, looking grand and magnificent, vigorous and virile. Drive to Jiayuguan.

Continue to Visit Jiayuguan Pass, the first pass at the west of the Great Wall of China. It is situated between the Wenshu and Heishan Mountains at the foot of Jiayuguan Hill of Qilian Mountain. Along with Juyongguan and Shanhaiguan, it is one of the main passes of the Great Wall.

If time permit, we will also visit Xuanbi Great Wall. Visit of the Great Wall of Xuanbi. 6 kilometers north of Jiayuguan is one of the most spectacular sites of the Great Wall. Xuanbi Great Wall, also called the Overhang Great Wall. Built in the middle of the 16th century, the Overhang Great Wall of Jiayuguan served as protective ramparts against barbarian intrusions from the west.

Day 3Jiayuguan - Duhuang

Attractions: Echoing Sand Mountain & Crescent Lake

Drive to Dunhuang (360km, 4h). Visit the Echoing Sand mountains (Mingsha Mountain) and Crescent Lake. The Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Lake Nature Park is a popular attraction in Dunhuang to explore stunning desert scenery and take part in exciting sand dunes activities. The park consists of the Mingsha Mountain and the Crescent Lake surrounded by sand dunes of Mingsha Mountains.

Day 4Duhuang

Attractions: Mogao Caves, Yumenguan pass, Yadang National Geopark

In the morning, visit of Mogao Caves. The Mogao Caves, a Buddhist cave-temple complex in Dunhuang, have many kinds of religious paintings on their walls, dating from the Tang dynasty (618–907 ce); the Mogao complex was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987. Within the Mogao complex a vast library was discovered.

In the afternoon, visit of Yumenguan Pass. The Yumenguan pass built in so-called western Hexi Corridor of the Great Wall of China was a small fortified city. The pass was built under the Han Dynasty (III century BC – III century AD) to protect the trade caravans and the communities in the oases located in the Empire’s western territories from the attacks of the northern Huns.

Visit of Yadang National Geopark. It extends 25 kilometers (15 miles) from east to west and 13 kilometers (8miles) from north to south. The park is well-known for Yadang landscape, whichis a typical wind erosion landform. Yadang in Uygur language means a small mound with steep walls. The area contains 77 ruins and huge rocks formations insculpted shapes.

Day 5Duhuang - Departure

Today is free for you until your tour guide and driver escort you to the airport in time for the scheduled flight/railway station to other destination. Tour ends.
